Last Call……………….. AMOC Northeast’s Winter Dinner in Watertown MA. 6.30pm Weds, Dec. 4th, 2019

It may be bad news that the warm days of 2019 are behind us, but look on the bright side: it’s time again for the AMOC Northeast Winter Dinner Party! Cozy warmth, good friends, soothing refreshments and wonderful fare.

This year we are at a new venue: on Weds Dec 4 (drinks at 6.30pm and dining at 7.00pm) we will gather for holiday cheer at La Bodega restaurant in Watertown MA (review here). The food is Uruguayan; it arrives at the table in a stream of small dishes: a South American version of Dim Sum or Tapas. And what food: spiced vegetables, a variety of meats (steak, duck, Mangalitsa Ham, goat, …) and Uruguayan empanadas. The meal will be $52 per person. Coffee, dessert and the tip are included. Good wines will flow at $18/glass. Let me know by Nov 27 if you want to join in. Because of the increased available seating this year, do consider inviting a friend or two – they will be most welcome.

The event also promises you more special treats:
— Our own Peter Bourassa will be speaking to us on the remarkable race driver and automotive journalist Denise McCluggage. Peter knew Denise well, and will regale us with amusing anecdotes that bring her energetic character to life
— We will dine in La Bodega’s 1950s sited Amtrak dining car  Now that’s what I call unique surroundings.

Sun September 16 10am-3.30pm (or 8pm with dinner) – Gosport Regatta Cruise from Portsmouth NH out to Star Island.  We will observe the regatta from the deck of the Isles of Shoals’ M/V Thomas Leighton (refreshments available aboard), which follows the sailing boats throughout the race.  A video of last year’s trip is here.  Once on the island, there are picnics/BBQ’s, a kite flying competition and exploratory walks.  After an included dinner, we will board the Thomas Leighton at 6.45pm for the return journey (or take the 2.15pm return sailing, if you wish to skip the on-island activities). Optionally, you can also stay over on Sunday night at the Victorian hotel on the island and breakfast with the regatta’s skippers.
